Monotypes

A visit to the Halls Gap Zoo gave me inspiration to try some animal images using the Monotype technique. I inked up a plastic sheet and using the photos taken as my reference, I drew freehand in to the wet inked surface with a pencil, cotton bud and I took away background with a tissue.
I then dampened my printing paper, set the press and placed the plastic sheet with its image on the press bed. The Deer and Goat images resulted.

I printed a Ghost print of the Deer which involves taking a print of the ink residue left after taking the print of the inked plate.

The Rooster (above) is an imaginary image and one of my first attempts.

"Tommy Tucker" (LHS) a Border Collie Kelpie cross never liked his photo taken he would lower his ears and the click of the camera scared him. I will have another attempt at his very missed image.
Watch this space for more zoo animals...

The ghost print has that in the snow atmosphere. I like the way you capture the character of the animals in your work.
